Therapy Services

St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center provides in-house therapy services through Mississippi Valley Physical Rehab. We help residents recover from a wide variety of conditions including stroke, heart attack, hip fractures, and injuries resulting from accidents. Services available include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and restorative programs. Our therapists perform an in-depth evaluation before setting up an intensive, comprehensive program to help you progress as quickly as possible. Family members are encouraged to be involved in the therapy program as an important part of our team.
Physical Therapists and Therapy Assistants restore muscle strength, activity endurance, joint mobility, restore balance and coordination for transfers and walking. Physical therapists use various techniques, such as moist heat packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and whirlpools to promote healing and provide pain relief. Specialized rehabilitation programs are available for spinal injuries, total joint replacements, and occupational and neurological injuries.
Occupational Therapists and Certified Assistants assess and provide individual programs to enable you to participate in community activities and perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating. Treatments may focus on home safety and equipment needs, endurance, coordination, and strength and range-of-motion to perform functional activities.
Speech-Language Pathologists are professionals to help you develop or regain communication abilities, improve understanding, memory, and interaction skills. Specialized services are provided to improve vocal quality, stuttering, and swallowing functions related to stroke or other neurological conditions. Special communication systems may be used to enhance communication abilities.
Restorative programs are available to help residents improve or maintain their current level of functioning. Restorative aides assist with range-of-motion exercises, walking, transfers, and other activities to improve resident mobility and to prevent complications of immobility. Restoratives aides work under the direction of a physical therapist, who establishes and supervises the restorative program.
